Fate, love, desire, temptation, struggle, spiritual fulfillment.

Timeless storytelling. Captivating music.

Presented in partnership with North York Concert Orchestra.

Composed in 1937, Carmina Burana remains one of the most popular pieces of the choral music repertoire. Consisting of 24 movements, with texts taken from a collection of medieval poems, the work is a deeply emotional and thought-provoking exploration of fate, love, and the human condition. Through its powerful music and evocative texts, Carmina Burana invites listeners to reflect on the universal themes and experiences that shape our lives, reminding us of the beauty, transience, and vulnerability inherent in our existence.

The concert will also include Nänie by Johannes Brahms and Bacchanale (from Samson & Delilah) by Camille Saint-Saëns. Pax Christi Chorale’s Artistic Director Elaine Choi will conduct the combined choir and orchestra in Nänie, while NYCO’s Music Director Rafael Luz will conduct Carmina Burana. Joining us for this performance are Emily Rocha (soprano), Nicholas Nicolaidis (tenor) and Dion Mazerolle (baritone).
